EnOcean unveils developer's kit for the new bidirectional Dolphin platform

September 17, 2009 | | 220000806
EnOcean GmbH has introduced its EDK 300 developer's kit for the new bidirectional Dolphin platform.
The new kit enables developers to implement energy-autonomous products even easier and faster. The developer's kit supports the bidirectional TCM 300, TCM 320 and STM 300 modules, and is available immediately.

Tougher environmental standards and soaring energy costs demand optimised concepts for the use of energy in buildings. That calls for technologies to speedily and efficiently implement such concepts - such as self-powered wireless technology from EnOcean. The wireless solution transmits data using energy harvested solely from the surroundings.

In the new bidirectional Dolphin system architecture EnOcean is expanding its selection of modules for self-powered wireless technology. For the first time miniaturised transceivers can not only transmit information but also receive it. The technology ushers in the use of energy-autonomous wireless sensors and actuators in a variety of sectors, such as heating. A living room sensor, for instance, can indicate whether a window is open somewhere, and the heating or air-conditioning is consequently turned down.

Based on EnOcean's innovative Dolphin system architecture, all wireless modules (868 MHz) of EDK 300 can be programmed for custom applications through the API interface. The new STM 300 scavenger transceiver is designed to implement energy-autonomous applications to sense temperature, light or air quality, for example. The TCM 300 and TCM 320 transceivers on the other hand are best suited for use in line-powered components such as flush-mounted actuators, repeaters or gateways. All bidirectional wireless modules come with standard firmware for building automation. Users can also create their own firmware. This is transferred to a specific wireless module by DolphinStudio software and the programming adapter. Additionally, there is WinEtel software to receive, transmit, analyse and record telegrams on the air interface.

EDK 300 gives the developers fast and full overview of the Dolphin platform.

In addition to wireless modules the developer's kit includes an evaluation board for TCM modules and one for STM, a self-powered PTM 200 wireless switch, two EOP 300 programming adapters plus a software CD with WinEtel, DolphinStudio and Keil uVision Trial.

Availability and Pricing

EnOcean's developer's kit EDK 300 is available now for a recommended price of 550 Euro.
