Infineon has retained its position as the world's largest supplier of power semiconductors (discretes and modules) in 2007 according to latest analysis from Market research analysts, IMS Research.

IMS Research's 2008 Power Semiconductor Discretes & Modules study shows that Infineon Technologies remained market leader for the fifth consecutive year and recorded the largest increase in market share of all suppliers in 2007. Infineon now has a 9.7 percent share of the $13.6 billion market.

Report co-author Josh Flood commented: "Infineon grew its power discretes and modules business by over 20 percent in 2007, outpacing the market, which grew at just under 10 percent and retained its position as the largest supplier to the market."

The study found that the top ten suppliers to the power semiconductors market experienced mixed performances in 2007, with STMicroelectronics and Fairchild Semiconductor ranked second and third respectively. Research Director, Ash Sharma added: "The future of the market continues to look very positive for power semiconductor suppliers with energy efficiency and energy concerns a major driver of growth."
